David and Moira set up Shieling Holidays in 1985, so we're entering our 32nd season. On Mull, the season is short, and ferry, building and other costs high. Shielings are a good solution, and we're blessed in a beautiful site, handy for ferry, buses and all facilities. You can save money by coming on foot, especially for short breaks.
David and Moira now live in Edinburgh for family reasons. David, 81, still works full time on Shieling Holidays and the Shieling Dryer. He believes in them, and hopes to find successors to take them forward, perhaps in a Joint Venture. Any takers? David might act as Chairman while he can still contribute.
The site is rich in habitats of sea, shore, bog, grassland and woodland. This website suggests what to see, and when and where to see it. There's a map, and Reception has a check-list so children can tick things off as they find them.
Contributions to photos and database are most welcome. For example, the photos of the stag and the otters at the top of the page were both taken by customers on site. Many thanks to them. You can find details of wildlife tour operators on land and sea through the Mull Links page.
One winter David had to mend a timber lifeboat from a Clyde Puffer. He had to dry the timbers first. How, in winter in Mull? Answer: the Shieling Dryer. Wind passing the open ends makes a through draft. It has dried clothes ever since. Save money, save the planet. Hang it, forget it, just drying in the rain. For free. Try the Dryers out for free while you're with us. You can see that David Bellamy likes the smaller Family Dryer.
